Social Media Data as an indicator of Health Outcomes

In this latest study by University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, researchers are investigating whether social media data can be correlated to health outcomes. As part of the study, about 1,000 patients consented to have their social media and health data collected over a 7-month period. The results have not been published yet, but researchers hope that this data (including 1.4 million tweets) can be used to identify trends in health outcomes. Should I have refrained from posting that photo of the banana split I had last week? Time will tell!
