Social media helps predict the incidence of the flu

Researchers are more accurately able to predict the incidence of flu by compiling social media data. In a study conducted by computational endocrinologists at Boston’s Children’s Hospital, researchers used five sources: 1) real-time records from practices managed by Athena Health 2) Google Trends, including flu-related queries, 3) Twitter posts, 4) FluNearYou and 5) Google Flu Trends. This model was found to be superior to using a singular method and was perfectly in sync with the CDC’s predictions for this year as well.
