Continuous glucose monitors gaining ground?

A patch offering continuous glucose monitoring has just been approved in the European Union for children and adolescents. This neat little device means no more pin pricks, better monitoring during sleeping hours, and graphical readouts. Is anybody else surprised this technology is taking so long? In the midst of a continually worsening diabetes epidemic, I imagine there are huge incentives for innovation.
