Study shows the use of online resources may help prevent major depression

A randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) looked at the utilization of online tools in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). The participants who were at high risk for developing MDD were divided into groups: The intervention group was provided with web-based tools in addition to standard of care treatment while the control group only received standard of care treatment.  27 percent of the participants in the intervention group exhibited MDD symptoms compared to 41 percent in the control group.
