Harvard Medical School Overhauls Curriculum

Harvard Medical School has fully implemented a new style of medical school curriculum that prioritizes integration of various disciplines such as anatomy, biochemistry, pathology into one course rather than teaching each independently.

In addition, a new focus is placed on “flipped classrooms” which utilizes podcasts enabling primary learning to be done outside the classroom with interactive in-class case-based sessions.

Lastly, the new curriculum is only 14 months long and allows students to begin their clinical rotations 4 months earlier than it used to.

The success of the curricular shift is currently under study using surveys and performance evaluations and will compare the last class under the old curriculum with the first class under the new curriculum.
