Technology underused in psychiatry, but changes are ahead

This article describes the shortage of psychiatrists (and a complete lack of psychiatrists in many counties in the US) and the use of the ‘clinical decision support’ (CDS) tool to help with this problem. CDS is a software program that applies clinical knowledge from practice guidelines and integrates the patient’s information into a checklist. The aim is to give this tool to primary care practitioners, emergency medicine practitioners, psychiatrists and other specialists who treat mental health patients in order to supplement their care.
