Influence of Media on Adolescent Contraceptive Use and Sexual Behavior

This article discusses a variety of factors in adolescent sexual behavior, specifically the impact that media can have on teen contraceptive use in an age of increasing sexualization of adolescent media content. Multiple studies have shown that increased knowledge of contraceptive options did not affect the age at which minors became sexually active. In light of this data, the article reveals the overwhelming lack of references to contraception or safe sex practices in media directed towards adolescent viewers.
