Rural African Clinics’ Ultrasound Use Increases Prenatal Care

This article discusses the increased interest in prenatal care when ultrasound was advertised to rural African women. The article states, “Women who previously had seen only traditional healers were nine times more likely to show up if the ultrasounds were advertised.” This practice that pushes early prenatal care allows earlier and more consistent access to maternal vaccinations, treatment of HIV, syphilis, and hypertension, and early vitamin supplementation.
