Pediatric Surgery: Gateway to Opioid Misuse?

The study evaluated 88,637 patients ages 13-21 who were prescribed opiods after surgery. The study group showed 4.8% persistent opioid use compared to control 0.1%. This age group are especially at risk of opioid misuse and care must be given to prescribing appropriate amount of analgesic postoperatively.
