Preventing Self-Injurious Behavior in Autism with ECT

Self-injurious behavior (SIB) is common in children with autism or intellectual disabilities. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is now indicated for SIB, providing an alternative for patients who have SIB that is refractory to standard treatments, such as behavioral and psychopharmacological interventions.
