Real-Time Location Systems Help Hospitals Track the Chaos

A new study shows that even the simple act of getting lost going to patient rooms in the hospital, amongst other acts, can lead to hours of lost physician productivity.   Parkland hospital in Dallas is employing real time location systems to map out the most efficient paths for patient bed transfers.

As an aside, when I was interviewing at UTSW at Parkland, I was told that this technology was also being used to track where newborns were being taken in the hospital and if they deviated off preset paths, it would alert the staff for potential baby kidnapping.
