Heart Rate and Energy Expenditure Accuracy in Wrist Worn Devices

The journal of personalized medicine published a study in 2017 that compared the accuracy of heart rate and energy expenditure measurements in 7 wrist worn devices, including the Apple Watch, Basis Peak, Fitbit Surge, Microsoft Band, Mio Alpha 2, PulseOn, and Samsung Gear S2. The devices were worn while participants were sitting, walking, running, and cycling and they found that the lowest error was for cycling and the highest was for walking. The apple watch performed the best with the lowest overall error and the Samsung Gear S2 performed the worst with the highest overall error.
