Preventing peripheral neuropathy with viral gene therapy

Scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have used gene therapy in mice to prevent axonal degeneration. The viral gene therapy targets SARM1, a protein that is activated during neuronal damage and results in axonal degeneration. The hope is to use this new gene therapy to prevent peripheral neuropathy in patients.
