Trial using donated eye tissue offers stem cell surgery hope

Doctors at the University of Edinburgh carried out a randomized clinical trial that used stem cells from donors to create and transplant new tissue that helped to restore the surface of the eye in patients with a condition that causes blindness (limbal stem cell deficiency). This is the first clinical trial of its kind and may help pave the way for the use of new cellular therapies in the future.
